There was only one album that stuck with me this week. This record is mesmerizing start to finish. Their last album earned a GRAMMY nomination for Best Folk Album; I expect this will receive equal—and hopefully higher—recognition.
The Milk Carton Kids, “Monterey”
Monterey is the The Milk Carton Kids’ third album. According to their record label, this album was written and recorded on stages across North America—concert halls, churches, and theaters. This adds a depth and richness to their sound and songwriting that is easy to appreciate.
Kenneth Pattengale and Joey Ryan—the duo behind The Milk Carton Kids—produce rich harmonies and complimentary acoustic parts reminiscent of Simon & Garfunkel and Kings of Convenience, albeit with a subtle country twang.
